About the Property

Church Cottage is peacefully nestled in the quiet Northumbrian Village of Wall, this traditional, detached stone cottage sleeps four and is well equipped for a comfortable stay. It has been tastefully renovated in a cottage style, it is charming and homely, with exposed beams, an original stone feature wall and a wood burner in the lounge. Ample, comfortable sofas to relax after a day’s walk, watch a bit of television, chill out with a good book, or that crafty project you always meant to start!

The bright, spacious kitchen is a sociable space with an original Victorian table that seats six, a good place to plan the week’s activities or share meals and laughter. Two bedrooms are set in the roof space upstairs; a king and a twin room. The ceilings are sloped with original beams, blackout blinds and deep sprung mattresses with memory foam toppers, to ensure a relaxing sleep even in the middle of summer. A small third room upstairs has Wii Player, games and a DVD player. This room may also be used for a travel cot. We are also part of Green Tourism and aim to use eco-friendly and sustainable practices where possible.

The cottage has also invested in a complete Air-sterilization system to provide moisture and chemical-free protection against bacteria and viruses. This AirSteril Technology has been fully tested by the Health Protection Agency and Leeds University, proving its ability to kill up to 99.9% of bacteria and viruses. This silent, eco-friendly and medically-researched system helps give reassurance to guests and particularly those who may be vulnerable, between changeovers and during stays. Jane Michie would love to welcome you to Church Cottage, a luxury, Four Star, self-catering cottage located in the picturesque village of Wall in Northumberland. Jane also lives locally, and enjoys meeting guests and sharing local information. She is Northumbrian-born, previously an Oncology Nurse and Lymphedema Specialist, she enjoys her garden, walking and exploring the countryside. She enjoys all forms of creativity, especially fibre and textiles.
Wall is so named because of its close proximity to Hadrian’s Wall and there are several lovely walks from the village. Wall Fell rises to the East of the village, near the cottage – always a good spot to listen to birdsong, watch the buzzards soaring or search for the Iron-Age Fort remains. St. Oswald’s Church just beyond the village, otherwise known as Heavenfield after the Battle of Heavenfield in 634, is a pretty, little church set in a field with wonderful views over the North Tyne Valley. In 1991, Wall was designated a conservation area and recognized as an area of special architectural and historic interest. Around the village centre are several Bastle Houses; fortified farmhouses build in the time of the Reivers in the 17th and 18th centuries. The old village ‘pant’ or water pump remains and the listed War Memorial with its beautiful stone cross. Restaurant Hjem is a One-Star Michelin Restaurant and bar, it is walkable from the cottage and situated in the village. The town of Hexham is 3 miles away, with its historic Abbey and Roman crypt, Hexham Old Gaol and vibrant Farmers’ Markets on the second and fourth Saturday of the month.
